Voluntary role in communications, Holborn

...with The Funded Network

Volunteering is a great way to build up current work experience, show your commitment to job-type or industry, and to ease yourself back into the world of work. Not least, donating your time to a charity is also a great way to ‘give something back’ to the world!

Volunteering also offers you the flexibility to spread your work however you choose, including working from home or at the office within school hours.

So, if your New Year resolution is to build up some work experience, and if you would like to try your hand at communications, read on…

The Funding Network (TFN) is a young, dynamic charity that creates social change through collective giving at special fundraising events. It has been described as ‘a marketplace for donors and charities’, ‘the UK’s 1st public, open giving circle’ and ‘speed dating for philanthropists’! During the last 7 years the network has helped hundreds of people to join together their individual donations to raise a total of £2.5 million for over 350 local, national and international charitable causes. It funds charities working in the areas of international development, environmental change, health, education and human rights and conflict resolution. The Director is a part time working mother herself, with two young children.

In this one month placement, you will get involved with researching Corporate Social Responsibility, philanthropy and the voluntary sector press; creating promotional materials and case studies on projects funded and results achieved, helping to develop the website and drafting content and generating ideas for TFN to publicise itself. They are looking for someone with experience of one or more of the following: web development, selling, copywriting, working with the media and general communications. A working knowledge of Dreamweaver would be helpful. The ability to work as part of a small team of three staff and volunteers will also be important.

This role gives you the opportunity to make a real impact through your work and experience the benefits of working in a supportive and understanding environment as part of a small, friendly team. It will also introduce you to lots of new people in the fields of social enterprise, small charities and philanthropy. Three of their previous volunteers have found jobs in the voluntary sector from contacts made at TFN.

How to apply
Please email your CV and a covering paragraph on why you are interested in the position to Tillie Sklair at info@thefundingnetwork.org.uk by Friday 22 January.

Tille says if you would like to get involved and have skills outside this area, please contact her anyway and TFN might be able to create a voluntary role just right for you!
